Description
Stone pilot's beacon on West Mouse rock, summounted with spherical top. Painted white. The pilot beacons on nearby Carmel Head (NPRN 412629) were erected by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board in the 1860's as an aid to navigation and comprise two concrete pyramids aligned with a third on West Mouse. The line of sight through the beacons marks the position of Coal Rock - a notorious isolated rock hazardous to shipping. The beacons have been photographed during aerial reconnaissance by RCAHMW.
