Capel-Dewi-uchaf was presumably the original Capel-Dewi farm. The hamlet in which it is located is also named Capel Dewi. The site was visited by RCAHMW staff in 1914 and it was noted that the nomenclature of the district favoured the assumption that a small church dedicated to St David had once stood in the neighbourhood. A farm depicted as Ffynnon Ddewi is situated some 600m to the north-west of Capel-Dewi uchaf.
