Description
Deserted farmstead on the lower south-eastern slopes of Darren Lwyd. The ruined farm buildings are enclosed by a rectangular stone-walled outer enclosure measuring approx. 170m in length by 80m wide, orientated north-west to south-east. This outer enclosure is sub-divided into three smaller enclosures by earth banks, each of a similar size. On the western wall of the enclosure, adjacent to the buildings is part of a further stone-walled inner enclosure, forming an L shape. Remains of two additional adjoining enclosures to the northern end of the enclosure are evident from aerial photography. The farmstead is denoted on the Brecknockshire 1st edition Ordnance Survey mapping of 1886 (Brecknockshire XXX I).

Photographed during aerial reconnaissance by RCAHMW on 10th October 2008.

'Ruined farmstead remotely located on a shelf in the Upper Honddu valley. There are two buildings along with adjoining animal pens enclosed by large upright slabs. The house is a small, well-built cottage of direct-entry plan (probably dating to c. 1850 as it does not appear on the tithe map). It has door and window openings in the south-facing lateral wall only. There is a deeply splayed fireplace in the downhill gable, flanked by a cupboard recess and a stone bake-oven (which projects beyond the gable in a square outshut). A small spring rises from outside the SE corner of the enclosure wall.'
