Description
The churchyard to St Martin's Church (NPRN 102141) is bounded to the north and east by rubble stone walls. The churchyard retains a particularly fine collection of eighteenth and nineteenth century monuments, which are Grade II listed for their group value. Thre are steps up to the east, with a two-tier terrace, rubble revetment walls and further monuments. There are funerary vaults beneath the lower terrace, one with a segmental voussoir arched entrance (blocked). Its inscription reads 'The Family Vault of Robert Holderness Esq. Laugharne 1873'. Some monuments are constructed of marble and are of classical style. Dylan Thomas, Welsh poet and playright, is buried here.
