1. The Metal Box company was founded in 1921 to manufacture metal containers and established a tinplate works at Eaglesbush, Neath, to supply their factories. In the 1930s the company added a manufacturing plant next door to the Eaflesbush tinplate works. Both works are situated alongside the Neath Canal.

2. The company revealed plans to close the factory in October 2015 after more than 70 years at the site, and shut in June 2016. The site was then bought by Neath, Port Talbot Council in December 2017 with the intention of making use of it once again.
