A deserted rural settlement, possibly a squatter settlement in origin, now represented by Rock House (NPRN 30933). By c. 1900 the community had a school and a post office. The settlement became largely deserted in the C20th and in the 1970s the derelict buildings were destroyed in a programme of agricultural improvement. Information from Jane Jarvis, Rock House. Note: the place-name is New Well (singular) and not New Wells (plural). RFS/April 2013/RCAHMW
