Description
One of two jetties in Penmaenmawr (see nprn 518966), the Graiglwyd Jetty was rebuilt in 1888 to serve the stone quarry of the same name. The level of the quay was raised by about 25 feet allowing the railway to run at a gradient, as a self acting incline. Following construction of the jetty, quays were built, which allowed 160 railway wagons alongside. From 1888, Runcorn and Liverpool were regular destinations for the quarry boats from Graiglwyd delivering stone products to major canals which distributed to towns over the North and Midlands of England. In c.1914, the jetty was lengthened and widened. From the 1940s, the quarry railways and the jetty gradually went out of use after increased use of road transport. The last ship to be loaded at the jetty was the MV Cadbourne in 1955. The jetty was demolished in 1960.
