Type Of SiteBISCUIT FACTORY
PeriodModern
DescriptionA biscuit factory was erected on this site, adjacent to railway sidings south of Pengam Junction, probably in the mid-1940s. Originally comprising two long single storey ranges with a two-storey block at each end, the factory was later extended with two further ranges added. The site was served by a short railway siding. In Aerofilms photographs of the factory taken in 1947, two lorries can be seen on the site, bearing the name of another biscuit manufacturer 'Elkes', with which Fox was closely associated. The original buildings survive, although additions have been made and the frontages are covered over with steel cladding, and are in use as the Clydesmuir Industrial Estate.
