Description
Oval embanked univallate earthwork enclosure, with an outer ditch, measuring 11m north-west - south-east, by 8m. Sited on a north-east facing hillslope, aligned with the slope, above the Afon Leri, on poorly drained moorland to the east of the Bontgoch Water Treatment Works. The enclosure looks unlikely to be a long house or settlement structure, and may be interpreted as a stand for drying cut peat. Similar examples are known from Gwynedd, in the area around Tir Stent, Dolgellau (see Crew and Musson 1996, Snowdonia From the Air, RCAHMW/SNPA, page 43). Recorded during RCAHMW aerial reconnaissance on 2nd April 2013.
