Description
Royal Commission winter aerial reconnaissance on 7th Feb 2012 identified previously unrecorded quarry pits at Pentrebannau, characteristic of Roman roadside quarry pits already recorded further to the south-east along the line of the Roman road passing Careg-y-Bwci. At SN6402 4962 is an extensive area of small quarry hollows, well preserved. Closer to the road at SN 6395 4950 is a more denuded set of quarry hollows, with a linear edge set away from the present country lane. This may indicate that the line of the Roman agger is also preserved here in roadside pasture.
