Although a mill has existed on this site since medieval times the current building was built towards the end of the eighteenth or the start of the nineteenth century. It was worked until 1936 when it ceased to function. Its job was to grind the grains grown in the immediate vicinity. Prior to 1875-80 when the very localised food chain was broken up, the Mill serviced an area of some seven square miles, which covered both valley floor and hilltop.
