Sandfields Estate, Aberavon consists of housing estates built between 1947 and 1955, primarily built to house workers in the neighbouring steel industry (see NPRN: 91392). It has some 8,500 households and approximately 19,000 residents. Between 1950 and 1957 more than 3,500 local authority homes were built in the Aberavon / Port Talbot area to house the expanded work force.
