Dowlais Public Library, a Grade II Listed building, was constructed by E. A. Johnson of Abergavenny, between 1903-1907. It was built as a Free Public Library, with a grant from the Carnegie Trust, in the Arts and Crafts free style, and features Tudor to 17th century details. The carved detail, in Art Nouveau style, now much eroded, was provided by T. A. Jones of Cardiff.
