Description
Abbey Road Garage was built in 1920 by the Edward Brothers of the Red Dragon Bus Company. Its location opposite the railway station is indicative of the fact that petrol, spare parts and even vehicles were until this date brought in almost exclusively by rail, though this soon changed with the progression of road vehicles, particularly petrol tankers during this decade. The garage is a handsome brick building, the facade provided with large plate glass windows for the display of products above which is a pediment with bold stucco and brick banding to the pilasters and window dressings in Art Deco style. The window probably lit a first floor office space, while the initials W E set in occuli to either side stand for William Edwards.
