Description
Stone monument commemorating the 1136 battle of Maes Gwenllian (NPRN 402324) located outside the entrance to Kidwelly Castle.

Gwenllian was captured and executed in the battle which represented a victory for the English under the Norman Lord of Kidwelly, Maurice de Londres. Gwenllian was a princess of the house of Gwynedd and wife of Gruffydd ap Rhys. She is an important figure being the only woman documented in medieval Wales to have directly commanded an army.
