The former St David's Church is depicted at a slightly different orientation to the present church, adjacent to the east churchyard boundary. 1889 Ordnance Survey mapping depicts a much smaller churchyard than the current one, measuring some 45m north to south x some 30-40m east to west (the north wall being shorter than the south), located in the present churchyard's south-east section. A small rectilinear enclosure, measuring some 16m north to south x some 40m east to west, is depicted to the south of the 1889 churchyard, immediately south of the road. The former enclosure's east boundary delineates the line of the current road.
St David's Church was a chapelry of Llanddewi Brefi parish during the medieval period. The church belonged to the Deanery of Sub-Aeron and was an episcopal grange of St Davids. It has been suggested that the church's dedication may result from its subordination to St David's. The church was still a chapelry in 1883, in the patronage of the Perpetual Curate of Llanddewi Brefi. It was still a perpetual curacy in 1889.
The church was rebuilt in the 1890s, some 40m west-north-west of its predecessor. In 1996 there was no apparent physical evidence for the old church.
The new St David's Church (NPRN 418359) is situated within the north-west section of a rectilinear churchyard. The churchyard measures some 85m east to west x 60m north to south and is bounded by roads on its west and south sides.
