Evidence can be seen of a former farm waterwheel which ran in a small stream to the west of Great Abbey Farm buildings at Strata Florida. The wheel was connected, across a track, via a (probably) below-ground shaft to a high-level lineshaft inside the adjacent building, from where drive was taken by pulleys and flat belts to various agricultural machinery: a root cutter, gorse cutter and corn-grinding mill were noted in the building.
