Type Of SiteDEFENDED ENCLOSURE
PeriodRoman
DescriptionRoyal Commission aerial reconnaissance on 23rd July 2014 discovered cropmarks of a plough-levelled defended enclosure of Iron Age or Romano-British type, lying some 120m south-east of Oxwich Castle. Parchmarks in grassland on this rocky promontory show a univallate, oval defended enclosure measuring c.80m diameter, with a simple gateway on the north-west side. The south-east (rear) of the enclosure is flattened with the possibility that it was originally laid out against a pre-existing boundary or feature. This defended enclosure lies 1.1km north-west of Maiden Castle promontory fort (NPRN 301333).
