Description

St Francis' Church is located on the south side of Chester Road, Queensferry. It was built to designs of Sir Charles Nicholson in a Gothic style but without historical motiffs, only simple tracery. It opened in 1913 when services previously held at St Ambrose School Church (NPRN 420480) ceased. The church was not completed until 1935, and was consecrated by the Bishop of St. Asaph on 10th July 1935.
The church is constructed of dark brick with sandstone dressings and slate roofs. It consists of nave and chancel, north aisle, north-east chapel, gabled north-west porch, lean-to south vestry, and square bell tower with steep pyramid copper roof at junction of aisle and chapel. Only two bays of the nave were built and a west termination was added in 1934-5. A balcony in the chancel was probably intended for the organ. Adjacent to the chuch on the west is the church hall, built in 1958.
