Description
Croesnewydd North Fork Signal Box stands at the at northern apex of a triangular junction where the Wrexham & Minera line (now closed) meets the Shrewsbury & Chester line. It was built to a Great Western Railway type 27c design in 1905. Of timber framed and weatherboarded construction, it is a two storey building under a hipped slate roof. According to Ordnance Survey 25in mapping of 1872, 1899 and 1912, it would appear that the current box replaced a smaller one on the same site and that, originally four bays, it was later extended by an extra bay to the south. The box currently houses an 83-lever frame of 1940; it is probable that the extra bay was added at the time to accommodate this.
