Description
St Mary's church is located on the north-east side of Church Road, at its junction with Bryndulais Row. It was built in 1910-11 in Early English style with some Perpendicular sculpture, to designs of Neath architect J.Cook Rees. It was built on a site adjacent to an iron church, also dedicated to St Mary, situated at the margins of the contemporary settlement (NPRN 420970).
The church is constructed of coursed sandstone with finer dressings under slate roofs. Long axis aligned north-east by south-west, the church consists of clerestoried, aisled nave with lower chancel and double bellcote, and gabled porch on the south-east. Stained glass includes works by Clayton & Bell (1921) and Celtic Studios (1959-81).
