Description

St George's church is located on the east side of the A459 Newtown to Llangurig road, between it and the railway, set back from the road in a rectangular churchyard used as a cemetery. A church was reputedly established here by St Gwrhai in the sixth century. The present church is a nineteenth-century structure, built in 1864 to designs of Edward Jones. It is constructed of roughly-coursed rubble and slate roofs. It consists of nave and chancel under a single steeply-pitched roof, west bellcote, gabled south porch and gabled north vestry. The east and west windows are in Decorated style. Stained glass in the west window is by Powell (1864).
The church hall, in corrugated iron, is nearby at the north-west end of the church yard.
