Description
St Mary's church is situated on the west edge of the village, set back from the A539 in a rectangular churchyard used as a cemetery. It was built in 1899-1901 to designs of C.Hodgson Fowler, about 30m to the north of a predecessor church no trace of which is now visible. The new church is constructed of red sandstone and a red tile roof. It consists of nave and slightly narrower chancel (inset from nave on south side only), west bellcote growing from a central buttress, gabled south porch and north vestry. The church is lit through Decorated windows straight-headed on the north and south.
