Description
Site of Neolithic settlement excavated by C.R. Archaeology in 2014-2015 on the site of a proposed new community school. Following an initial evaluation the excavation was extended in January 2015 and wall trenches of three early Neolithic houses were discovered. A mass of further pits contained mostly middle Neolithic artefacts (3400-3000 BC). Further excavations in the Autumn of 2015 fully exposed two of the houses. Finds included a quernstone and cremated animal bones in the bottom of a posthole of House I, sherds of Irish Sea Ware from House 3, Mortlake-style pottery from the pit group, chips and flakes from Graig Lwyd axes and rock and a leaf-shaped arrowhead.
