Description
Hawarden Bridge Junction Signal Box, of 1890, appears to be a Dutton & Co. type 1 design, but with Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire/Great Central Railway alterations. It is a two storey structure of all-timber construction, with horizontal weatherboarding, under a pitched slated roof with decorative bargeboards and finials, with a similarly-constructed porch accessed by an external wooden stairway set at the north end. This lighter, all-timber construction was used probably to avoid substantial foundations as the box stands on an embankment. It stood at the north end of the east, or up, platform at Shotton station (nprn 421962).
