Description
A Bronze Age burial mound is located in a pasture/hay field on the north side of Cefn-garn at an altitude of 280m ASL. Positioned at a change of slope where the land begins to fall away to the north, the stony mound measures 11m in diameter with a maximum height of about 0.3m. Its surface is uneven, its centre slightly dished as if disturbed. Air photos suggest there is a low spread of material against the north-west side of the mound. It was reported that the local soil cover is too thin to plough and the field was most likely always used for grazing. When visited the mound was covered in light vegetation. Stones protrude across its surface including at its perimeter though there is no clear evidence for a kerb.
Irregular mounds along the south edge of the field originated as dumped material from recent building activity.
