DescriptionThe 1st edition of the historic 25-inch O. S. map published in 1889 names a "Factory (Woollen)" at this site; the name Melin-y-Rhos applies to an adjacent cottage. The Factory was supplied with water power by a leat 650 metres long from the Afon Wygyr. The presence of a kiln, Yr-odyn, close by suggests that the mill may formerly have been a corn mill. The mill buildings are still depicted on the 2nd edition map (1900), but they are not named as a factory.
