Description
A railway or tramway, originally 7ft 0in gauge but converted to standard gauge in 1913, ran between the Breakwater Quarries (nprn 310333) and a point near the end of Holyhead Breakwater (nprn 41258). A broad gauge branch (closed pre-1890) left the line near Soldier's Point to run southeastwards to the Old Harbour. The railway's original purpose was to assist with the construction and later maintenance of the breakwater wall, but following closure of the quarry in 1975 and the railway in the early 1980s, stone is brought in by road.
