Description
Only the 3rd edition of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1917, depicts and names a woollen factory at this location. A 270 metre-long leat brought water from the Afon Desach to the rear of the buildings. However, this leat is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions, published in 1889 and 1900 respectively, so the factory must have existed at those dates, though not recorded by the Ordnance Survey. The building now forms two handsome stone-built cottages under a continuous slated roof. The more regular fenestration of the north-west cottage, now named Melin Wlan, suggests that this may have been a mill house, whilst the south-eastern cottage may formerly have been the mill building.
