Description
Paul R. Davis writes: 'Located about 400m north-east of the parish church, on the south bank of the Mithil brook, is the site of a spa that supposedly once rivalled nearby Llandrindod. It was discovered in the eighteenth century and was popular in the nineteenth, being used as late as the 1930s. The site is now marked by a collapsed timber building of two rooms, with a brick base and corrugated iron roof. The remains do not look very old (early-20th century?) and are hardly indicative of its reputed renown. Presumably there were baths in each room, where patients would soak in the strong-smelling waters. The spring has dried up, but the waters now break out of the stream bank leaving an unpleasant-looking milky residue.' It appears as a 'Sulphur Spring' on the 2nd edition of the 6 inch OS map, published in 1905.
