Description
St Nicholas 3 is an incomplete roman-letter inscribed stone with a cross. It is now located inside St Nicholas? Church (NPRN 423639), set against the west wall of the chancel on the north side. It was first recorded at Llandrudian Farm, the site of a cist cemetery (NPRN 423643), around 1698. It was rediscovered in 1897 in use as a gatepost at the farm, adjacent to St Nicholas 2 (NPRN 423641). It was moved to St Nicholas? Church shortly afterwards.

The stone is now split vertically and has lost the right side of face A, meaning almost the entire first line of the inscription is lost. Dimensions are given as 115.5cm height x 35.5cm max. width x 16 < 20cm diameter. The original inscription read in two lines vertically downwards, and has been translated as `of Valavus? Paanus?. Above the inscription is an incised irregular linear cross, which almost meets the first line of the inscription. The inscription is thought to date to the late 5th or first half of the 6th century. The cross is secondary, and thought to be 6th- to 9th-century in date.
