Description
Derwydd is a small hamlet situated approximately two and a half miles south of Llandeilo, on the southern banks of the Afon Cennen. According to the first edition of the 25inch maps, published in 1878, there were very few houses at the settlement and only two notable buildings - the College Inn, and the Derwydd Road Railway Station, which was a stop on the Great Western Railway's Llanelli to Llandilo line. By the second edition of the 25inch maps, published in 1906, more houses had been built and were labelled on the map as 'Station cottages;' 'Cennen Cottages;' 'Dynevor Cottage' and 'Cennen Terrace.' Modern OS maps indicate little change, although the railway station has closed. Although the College Inn closed for two years, in 2017 it re-opened in 2017 as a well-received 'gastro pub.'
