Description
The village of Llanddarog is situated on the B4310 road, six miles south east of Carmarthen. The first edition of the 25inch OS maps, published in 1888, depicts a fairly small village with three public houses - The White Lion (NPRN 417922), The White Hart (NPRN 17916) and another unnamed 'P.H' near the White Lion, as well as a Calvinistic Methodist chapel called Capel Newydd (New Chapel - NPRN 6397); a church dedicated to St. Twrog (NPRN 309898); a post office and a village school.
Remarkably little has changed in the village since 1888. More houses have been built, and the White Lion public house is now a residential dwelling. However, the White Hart is still an inn, and the other (unnamed) public house - The Butchers Arms - is also still open for business. Additionally, Llanddarog has kept its post office, chapel, church and school. The school is maintained by the church in Wales and educates approximately eighty pupils aged three to eleven through the medium of Welsh.
