DescriptionModern bypass running to the south and east of Newtown, built by Welsh Government at a cost of £80 million, opened on 14th February 2019. The proposal was first mooted in 1949, and was constructed in three years. The bypass to the south of Newtown is approximately 6.5km long and extends from the A489 Llanidloes Road at Penstrowed to the west of Newtown, to the A483 Pool Road, east of Newtown. The road has seen eleven new bridges opened along the route as well as five new roundabouts built into the scheme designed to alleviate traffic congestion in Newtown.
Recorded during Royal Commission aerial reconnaissance.
