Description
Llysfaen is a small, fairly dispersed village and community on the south western outskirts of Colwyn Bay. The second and third editions of the 25inch OS maps show that at the turn of the century Llysfaen was an even smaller and more dispersed community, although it had some amenities. These included the Lodge Inn, a National School (NPRN 23385), and a church dedicated to St. Cynfran (NPRN 301083) towards the north of the village. Further south was Llysfaen Telegraph station (NPRN 23386) and a large quarry. Beyond them was the second cluster of dwellings and amenities belonging to Llysfaen. These included the Castle Inn, Bod-hyfryd Inn, a Wesleyan Methodist chapel, Llysfaen Baptist chapel (NPRN 7058) and Bethel Welsh Calvinistic Methodist chapel (NPRN 12005).
In the twenty-first century, the Baptist chapel and the Church remain open. Ysgol Gynradd Cynfran educates approximately 180 pupils aged three to eleven. The Lodge Inn seems to have been replaced by Sephamore Lodge, and the Bod-hyfryd Inn has closed although The Castle Inn remains open. Significantly more development has occurred to the east of the church since the turn of the twentieth century. Amongst the residential housing there is a Chinese takeaway, a convenience shop and a petrol station.
