Description
The 1st and 2nd editions of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1889 and 1907 respectively, both name Picton Mill but depict it as disused. The maps depict the line of the former leat or mill race, taking water from the Afon Gwaun 1100 metres upstream to a water wheel on the south-east gable of the mill. The lower walls of the mill still stand one storey high, festooned with ivy and vegetation, and attached to its north-west gable is a long, single storey building, still in use, which may have been a stable and store for the mill. An adjectent dwelling, much modernised, may have been the mill house.
