Description
The 1st and 2nd editions of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1889 and 1907 respectively, both depict Maenclochog Mill as a working corn mill. The small stream which drains this slight valley was impounded to form a mill pond at SN 085275, and a sluice between this and the mill directed water into a mill race, feeding a water wheel on the west gable of the mill. The mill race still flows, piped for some of its length along the roadside and still passing the mill gable. The mill itself, built of uncoursed rubblestone under a pitched slate roof, had two storeys and an attic and is built into the hillside so that only the uper storey is visible on the north elevation. In 2011 it was being used by an electrical contractor.
