Description
The 1st and 2nd editions of the historic 25-inch O. S. maps, published in 1893 and 1908 respectively, both depict Hayston Mill as a working corn mill. The small stream which supplied waster for power was impounded 700 metres west of the mill, and from the pond a mill race carried water to another pond adjacent to the mill, crossing and possibly collecting water from another small stream. The water wheel appears to have been an internal one, located in the western part of the mill. Part of the building appears to survive amongst trees, 30 metres north-east of the farm which is still known as Hayston Mill.
