Description
Caersws Signal Box is a Dutton Type 1 design, built for the Cambrian Railways in 1891. Although now closed, the box unusually retains its original Dutton 18-lever frame; only four levers were latterly in use to operate semaphore signals above and below the box and to lock the crossing gates. The token equipment was removed in 1988. The box is of timber construction set on a low blue-brick semi-basement locking room and has small-pane windows across the front and around the gable ends, providing views along the line. Originally with a slate roof, now of corrugated iron, the decorative bargeboards and timber finials been retained. There is a red-brick chimney stack.
