Description
Newtown Signal Box was a Dutton & Co type 3 design dating from 1894 and was originally known as Newtown South until the 8-lever North box closed in 1920. The box was originally fitted with a Dutton 54-lever frame which was replaced with a Great Western Railway 35-lever 5-bar vertical tappet frame. Newtown Signal box closed in 1988 following the introduction of Radio Electric Token Block (RETB) signalling on the Cambrian Line on 24 October 1988 and was demolished.
