Description
The quarry at Fron Haul (nprn 500415) was opened before 1900 but was more extensively worked in the mid C20. During this latter period stone was conveyed, by means of hoppers suspended from a cable, downhill to the road. (The lower end of the cable was beyond the boundary of the survey area.)
A pair of concrete bases for a steel pylon carrying overhead cables or rail. Coarse concrete, consisting of large chips of local stone in cement, laid wet on site. The N base is in 2 sections: the upper section is 1.5m square and 0.8m deep with 6 sheared bolts forming a hexagon; the lower section is 1.5 x 2m, 0.3m deep, with 6 sheared bolts forming a rectangle. The S base is fragmentary, with 2 sheared bolts surviving.
Recorded as part of Uplands Initiative Survey. W B Horton, Hayman and Horton, 09/07/2007.
