Description
The quarry at Fron Haul (nprn 500415) was opened before 1900 but was more extensively worked in the mid C20. During this latter period stone was conveyed, by means of hoppers suspended from a cable, downhill to the road. (The lower end of the cable was beyond the boundary of the survey area.)
Four concrete bases forming a square, for a steel pylon carrying overhead cables or rail. They are laid out 2m apart, and are aligned with the quarry loading bay and other concrete bases (NPRN 500416, 500417, 500418). Coarse concrete, consisting of large chips of local stone in cement, laid wet on site. Each base is 0.5m square and 0.5m deep where surviving full-height. On top of each is the base of a round concrete post and a sheared bolt. Built on a levelled platform cut into the hillside.
Recorded as part of Uplands Initiative Survey. W B Horton, Hayman and Horton, 09/07/2007.
