Description
A minor gentry house of c. 1800 with a characteristic plan: three-storeys with rear stair projection and an attached single-storey kitchen. Abermeurig has a central stair-passage plan with the stair, framed by an archway, forming the principal feature of the house. The architectural detail (described in the listing) belongs to the earlier C19th. The kitchen had a vernacular character (with scarfed trusses) but externally had an eye-catching semi-curcular end. The scale of the house is modest but the accoutrements of a gentry house were certainly present. An eroded clom garden wall survives with evidence for a ha-ha. The footings of a demolished lodge lie near the garden. The home farm buildings are adjacent.

The house was associated with the Edwardes and (latterly) Rogers family. There are full details in the West Wales Historical Society Journal, vol. 2. The Abermeurig estate was extensive but sale catalogues (NLW) document the break up of the estate in the early C20th.
