Description
The hut is located on the west side of a stream. It has two chambers. The walls stand a maximum of 1.4 metres high and at most 0.8 metres thick, though this varies. The total length is 7 metres eastwest and 2.5 metres north-south. The west chamber is rectangular and about 4 metres long. It is entered through the south wall at the south end. The door is 0.6 metres wide. In the west wall there is a cavity at ground level measuring 0.7 metres wide, 0.5 metres high and 0.4 metres deep. It has a stone lintel and looks like a fireplace but there is no chimney. The east chamber is triangular and the walls deliberately bow inwards at the top and join. It is entered through the north end of the west wall, from the west chamber. In the south wall there is a blocked doorway 0.3 metres wide. A wall runs south from the south wall of the west chamber. It is roughly 5 metres long and 1.3 metres high and has coping stones. There is a box shelf in this wall located about 1.5 metres from the hut. The box shelf measures 0.2 by 0.2 by 0.2 metres. The ground cover was bracken at the time of survey. N.A. Vaughan, ArchaeoPhysica Ltd, 05/10/2007
