Bodtalog farmstead has origins as an upland farm in post medieval times. It is mapped on 19th century Ordnance Survey maps, which show a house and outbuilding within a small field system. By the early 21st century the earlier field system, which was defined by earthwork banks, has largely been supplanted by new field parcels defined by post and wire fences, rarely respecting the old field boundaries and enclosing a larger area. The 19th century house and outbuilding survive, but two larger farm buildings have been added to the south of the original farmyard. As an upland farm, the bulk of the land under the management of Bodtalog is an extensive upland pasture to the north of the main Cwmystwyth to Rhayader road. The holding has been in the management of the Elan Estate since the late 19th century and occupied by tenant farmers. J.J. Hall, Trysor, 9 September 2009
