The 19th century farmhouse at Claerwen is shown to the southeast of the present farmhouse, NPRN 30561 on the 1st and 2nd editions of the 1:10560 Ordnance Survey maps dating to 1891 and 1905 respectively. It was aligned east northeast to west southwest, more or less at right angles to the present house. The site was not visited during Uplands Survey in 2009 but the RCAHMW said that, in 1988, the ruined farmhouse lay between the present house and the farm buildings. J.J. Hall, Trysor, 6 February 2010
