Description
This record consists of a documentary reference to a shipping casualty which has been assigned to the maritime named location RIVER USK pending more information which may allow a more precise location for the loss to be assigned.

Event and Historical Information:
The LYDNEY TRADER was a wooden sloop built at Chepstow in 1821. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 29tons burthen; 43ft length x 12.8ft breath x 6.7ft depth; 1 deck, 1 mast rigegd as a sloop with standing bowsprit, square sterned, carvel built. The sloop was transferred from the Gloucester Shipping Register to Bristol on 18 November 1839 (44 in 1839). At which time, the owners were Henry Cox of Shirehampton, Gloucestershire, coal merchant, and Daniel Longney of Bristol, master mariner. The LYDNEY TRADER's registry was closed in 1841 after it was reported that the vessel had been destroyed by fire at Newport.
