The NESS was a wooden barque completed at Bristol in December 1843. Technical and configuration specifications are given as 352tons burthen; 96.6ft length x 23.6ft breadth x 7.1ft depth; 1 deck and quarterdeck; 3 masts, barque rigged with a standing bowsprit, square sterned, carvel built, female figurehead. The barque was entered onto the Bristol Shipping Register on 11 December 1843 (40 in 1843). At which time, the owners were given as George Henry Ames of Bristol, merchant and James Evan Baillie of Bristol, merhcant. The nominated master was Henry Nicholas. The barque's registry was closed in 1845 after notification that it had been lost in the Bristol Channel.
