Description

The wreck (UKHO 7345) lies broken in two in 51m of water. The bow section has collapsed but the midships and stern remains are relatively coherent. The vessel's keel is orientated 235 (bow)/045 (stern). The wreck measures 78m in length and c.11.6m in width.

Event and Historical Information:
The wreck was located by HMS FOX in December 1976 and was originally identified as the LA ROCHELLE (NPRN 272244) by the UKHO. A detailed survey was undertaken by Bangor University in August 2020. Associated research by Dr Innes McCartney (2023: 107) for the Echoes from the Deep project has confirmed that the wreck is dimensionally and positionally consistent with identification as the LA ROCHELLE, and its record has been updated to reflect this.
