Wartime aerial photographs dating to 1948 show a breakwater or range mark (parallel lines) extending north-eastwards from the high watermark. The breakwater crosses the watercourse of the Leri and appears to includes a staggered sluice. A telegraph pole with wire can be seen at the shoreward end of the breakwater. The breakwater is not shown on OS 1st or 2nd edition mapping and hence is possibly a wartime installation associated with the MOS EE AA Ynyslas. Or possible a much older structure such as a fishtrap temporarily defined by shifting sands. The northern edge forms a curving arm along the edge of the Leri channel. The whole extends for some 620m from shoreline to end of arm.
Alternatively, an engraving dated to approximately 1880 within the collections of the LLGC/National Library of Wales shows sailing vessels being unloaded by horse and cart in this vicinity. Improvements to foreshore access to service the landing point may be a factor contributing to creation of this feature.
